2025 - 2026
September 30, 2025 – Tour: Monticello’s Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants
We will have a guided tour of their unique preservation display gardens and nursery at Jefferson’s Tufton Farm. Highlights of the tour include the Léonie Bell Rose Garden, perennial borders, shade garden, native border, rain garden, and production greenhouse. Following the tour, we will have the opportunity to shop a wide selection of heritage and native plants directly from their nursery. The cost of the tour is $15 per person. For more information, see page 79 of the SGC Yearbook.
For those interested, we will leave early enough to have lunch at Simeon Market, a French cafe, before the tour. Visit simeonmarket.com for info about this unique establishment.
October 16, 2025 – Workshop: “Art and History of the Pressed Flower” with Conner Parrish
Conner will first talk about the art and history of pressed flowers. After that, each participant will learn how to make their own pressed flower note cards, going home with a set of three, along with a professional flower press. The workshop will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM at a location to be determined. The cost is $65 per person. For more info, see page 85 of the SGC Yearbook.
October 23, 2025 – Workshop: “Fall Succulent Garden in a Pumpkin” with Nancy Lee
Join SGC member and Programs Chairman, Nancy Lee, as she leads us in making a “Fall Succulent Garden in a Pumpkin”. All the necessary supplies including the plants and pumpkins will be provided for the participants to create their own garden to take home. The workshop will be held from 10:00 AM to 12 noon at 13220 Behetra Drive Midlothian, VA 23113. The fee for the workshop is $25.00 per person. See page 86 in the SGC Yearbook for more information and a sample photo.
March 19, 2026 – Workshop: “An Opportunity to Revitalize Your Floral Designs” with John Stanwix and Nancy Lee
Have you ever wondered, “Why is my staging panel being so onery?” or “Where do you get those supports for project displays?” John Stanwix will create models and explain how to improve the supports for your staging panel as well as guiding us to create things we need for better displays. The workshop would involve making things for yourself to use in a flower display. Each participant will choose the items to be preordered and the event will involve each person building their own pieces. Price for the workshop would depend on what had been preordered. The workshop will be held at the home of John and Fran Stanwix, 2620 Arrandell Road, from 10 AM to 12 noon. For more information, see page 107-108 of the SGC Yearbook.
May 28, 2026 – Tour: Bloomistry Garden Company with Conner Parrish
The company owned and run by Conner Parish has rebranded under the name Bloomistry. At Bloomistry, they strive to reconnect and restore a balanced relationship between nature and people through regenerative, organic gardening methods and community education.
Our club has been invited to visit (free tour) and see this company at work. In May, many of the flowering plants that they harvest and sell will be in full bloom. We are invited to see how they compost, the promotion of bee growth and development, and how the whole process comes together. We will tour their gardens so that we may incorporate more eco-aligned practices into our everyday lives. See page 116 for more information.
